18 Months

I have been out of work for 18 months.  That is a long time, a real long time to send out resumes and go on job interviews and not impressing them enough to get the job. It took selling off and giving away all our belongings except what would fit in my van and moving Paul and I to Lincoln, NE 900 miles away.

Mary kept telling me "come to Lincoln, you'll find a job here"  18 months later she was right. I was offered a job today by Dell Information Services. from what i understand is 30 plus health insurances have contracted out their customer service to Dell, and I will work in their inbound call center fielding these calls. And the best part for me is health insurance kicks in immediately!!!!  Did I mention that i have only been here 3 weeks?  I guess i should say that I have the job only if I pass a criminal background check and a drug test. I'm not worried.

Work should start Sept 13th.  Wish me luck!

I made it!

Ok ok ok.  I know I should have posted weeks ago,

Paul and I drove 2 days and 930 miles and arrived in Lincoln, Nebraska August 12.  We made a few stops along the way, of course we stopped at Buc-ees before we left Texas and we had to stop at Whataburger in  Oklahoma City as requested by our Host in Nebraska. Our van was so full of stuff I was afraid we were going to be knocked unconscious  by flying debris when i hit the brakes. (but that never happened)

We are in cultural shock, everyone talks to you everywhere you go, walgreens, restaurants, old navy, they just talk to you for no reason, when you use your blinker people let you in into traffic, I do fond myself driving  more aggressive than needed here, some habits die hard.   The weather is beautiful, it was in the mid 60's for a day or two last week but the evenings and mornings are cool, no mosquitoes but you can hear the din of katydids and crickets when we sit on the porch or in the backyard after dinner.

Since arriving we have gotten settled in the house, my best friend Mary was kind enough to give Paul and I both our own bedrooms, Paul Started , 8th grade and he says he likes it. I have not gotten any calls from his teachers, that is a good sign.  I have had one job interview that I am waiting to hear back about, and I have another interview Thursday.  both inbound call center jobs with benefits and regular hours.

Our Ward is small but everyone seems nice, Paul fits in with the Young Men quite well, all 8 of them, and every time I see him he has a girl on each side. I have not made any new friends in the ward but I hope that will change.   It is an older ward, not alot of small children, I think this group had been together for a long time.

That is all the news for now.  I will let you know if  I get a job.

Almost time to leave

I have less than a week left in Houston.  My closets are empty, most of the packing is done, the garage sale is over and the remains taken to Goodwill.  I did not do it on my own.  I am so thankful for my friends that came to help.  Jennifer who came over 3 days this week to help with the sorting process, and the garage sale.  to Rebecca for being my "Garage Sale Director".  The bulk of the work is done yet there is still more to do.

My goal is to have everything packed and ready to go by Monday night, then to spend one last stress free day at the beach with friends before heading to landlocked Nebraska.

The move is starting to feel real, and I will miss so many people as I leave here, but i am excited for what lies ahead for us. Our adventure is about to begin.

The wheels of change are beginning to turn.

We are starting to liquidate our belongings for the move.  I have given away some furniture, put some things on craigslist.  and made a pile for goodwill.   Have you seen anything of mine you like...make me an offer.

Paul is Home...YEA!!!!

Paul came home from week long boy scout camp I already had so much to tell him.  But when he pulled up to the house he was greeted by a police car.

I had called the police about an hour earlier I found a t shirt in the front yard covered in blood.  I know, I know I watch too much TV.  The police got here about 10 minutes before Paul arrived.  What a dramatic homecoming.

After a quick explanation about the police,  and breaking all the news the cat first, he was sad but he was expecting it.  The Moving away news is slowly sinking in, he is sad that he is leaving his friends and family and everything he has ever known but he  sees the benefit of a fresh start.

The move.

We are moving to Lincoln, Nebraska. We are in a weird place right now and I thought maybe a change would be good for us right now. I have been out of work for over a year, Paul has to change schools anyway and we don't have a contract on the house we are renting. I have lived in this area my whole life, my son has had some of the same teachers i had growing up. I live in the same ward as when i was a kid. I know all the shortcuts and backstreets to avoid traffic or a train. This is my world, this is what I know. This is what I am leaving.

Paul has only lived in clear lake since he was 1. This is where our family is. this is where his life is He is at boy scout camp this week and is not aware of the decision I have made. He comes home Saturday. should be in interesting day (his cat also died while he was gone) poor kid he was only gone for a week and everything changed. I know this is the right decision for us. but it is a hard one.

My plan is to actually use this blog to document this move and transition from Houston to Lincoln. Fasten your seatbelts...it's going to be a bumpy ride
